Online Notarization in Pennsylvania with Secured Signing
Pennsylvania has transitioned its temporary remote notarization laws into permanent legislation, becoming the 31st state to enact online notarization. Governor Tom Wolf signed House Bill 2370, also known as 2020 Act 97, into law on October 29, 2020. The law went into effect immediately, granting the state’s 114,000 notaries the ability to conduct notarizations remotely from the comfort of their homes.
Traditionally, notarizing important documents in Pennsylvania required scheduling an in-person appointment with a commissioned notary, who would use their notary stamp and paper documentation to validate the transaction. However, with Remote Online Notarization (RON), this process has been greatly simplified. You can now connect with a virtual notary via video conference and have your documents notarized without leaving your home.
How Does RON Work for Pennsylvania Notaries?
RON in Pennsylvania enables notaries to validate electronic signatures and conduct notarial acts entirely online. The process is quick and secure, often taking just a few minutes. During the session, the notary records the interaction and stores the audio-visual session for future reference. This adds a layer of accountability to the notarization process, allowing for easy resolution of disputes or the ability to review the session later.
The Pennsylvania Department of State provides each RON session with a digital certificate and seal to ensure the authenticity of the notarization. The process also employs a tamper-proof code that helps track any unauthorized changes to documents, making the notarization process more secure.
